HONORARY SPEAKERS/GUESTS

Representative Lee Terry (R-NE)
Monday Night Reception

Rep. Terry is a senior member of the Nebraska delegation, proudly serving Nebraska's Second Congressional District.  Congressman Terry first came to the United States House of Representatives in 1998.  He grew up in a family that believes service is a way of life.  Congressman Terry considers serving the people of the Second District of Nebraska the greatest honor of his career. He believes in the necessity of energy independence, the promotion of telecommunications, and encouragement of businesses large and small; these beliefs are central to his philosophy of public service.

Senator Byron Dorgan (D-ND)
Tuesday Night Reception

Senator Dorgan was re–elected to a third term in the U.S. Senate in November 2004 with nearly 70 percent of the vote after serving two previous terms in the Senate and six terms in the U.S. House of Representatives. One of his top priorities has been creating good–paying jobs and greater economic opportunity in North Dakota. He has also been a leader in efforts to ensure that rural areas have access to new, cutting edge communication technologies and to preserve the open and democratic character of the Internet (also known as net neutrality).

Attorney General Linda Singer
(Washington D.C.)
Monday, Attorney General's Perspective

AG Singer brings to the District of Columbia an extensive record of public service and a commitment to social justice. Ms. Singer served for 13 years as the Executive Director of Appleseed, a non-profit organization dedicated to building a just society.  Prior to joining Appleseed, Ms. Singer was a staff attorney in the Criminal Defense Division of the Legal Aid Society in New York City, where she handled thousands of cases in trial court.  Singer has served as a board member and chair of the Jessie Smith Noyes Foundation in New York, which provides funding for grassroots organizations working to advance environmental justice and reproductive health care. She is a member of the Advisory Board of the Family Economic Self Sufficient Program of Wider Opportunities for Women, and is an advocate for local school reform issues.

Attorney General William Sorrell
(Vermont)

Tuesday's Awards Reception

AG Sorrell was appointed by Governor Howard Dean in May 1997 to fill the unexpired term of former Attorney General Jeff Amestoy, who had been named Vermont’s Chief Justice.  Bill served as the President of the National Association of Attorneys General from June of 2004 to June of 2005. Prior to his presidential year, he served as the chair of the NAAG Tobacco Committee and co-chair of its Consumer Protection Committee. In June of 2003 he was chosen by his fellow attorneys general to receive NAAG’s Kelley-Wyman Award, given annually to the “Outstanding Attorney General” who has done the most to further the goals of the nation’s attorneys general. Bill serves as the chair of the American Legacy Foundation; has served on Vermont’s Judicial Nominating Board; as president of United Cerebral Palsy of Vermont; secretary of the Vermont Coalition of the Handicapped; and on the board of the Winooski Valley Park District.
